Mary Street - temporary full road closure - utility works

From 11:59pm to 5:30am each night, Wednesday 4 March to Saturday 7 March 2026, Mary Street will be closed near the intersection of Albert Street, to enable stormwater utility works.

Work Details

  • Installation of site fencing, hoarding and road safety barriers around the work area.
  • CCTV inspection and works inside manhole.
  • Use of machinery including excavators, generators, light vehicles, lighting units, ventilation fans, and hand tools.
  • Reinstatement of the road surface, once complete.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts

The following impacts are expected during the closure:

  • Mary Street will be closed at the Albert Street intersection. There will be no access for eastbound or westbound vehicles past the closure.
  • No access for vehicles from Albert Street onto Mary Street.
  • Vehicle detours will be in place on Edward, Alice, George, and Elizabeth streets.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained via the existing Mary and Albert Street signalised intersection.
  • Pedestrians on the southern footpath of Mary Street (opposite Lot 1) may be temporarily stopped when required and escorted through the work area under the direction of traffic control.
  • The northern footpath of Mary Street adjacent to the Lot 1 work site will remain closed.
  • Access to properties will be maintained under traffic control.

What to Expect

During the works, you may notice the following:

  • Temporary vehicle and pedestrian detours.
  • Increased truck movements and traffic control on the Mary Street and Albert Street intersection.
  • Increase in noise, dust, vibration, and worksite lighting.
  • Increase in construction workers.

At the completion of works, Mary Street will return to single-lane access for westbound traffic only.

Work Hours

Work will occur nightly from 11:59pm to 5:30am, Wednesday 4 March to Saturday 7 March 2026, subject to approvals and weather conditions.

In the event of unforeseen conditions or wet weather, work will be undertaken on the next available shift.
