Northern Tunnel Portal Construction

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2-kilometre rail line. It includes 5.9 kilometres of twin tunnels from a southern portal near Dutton Park station under the Brisbane River and the Brisbane CBD.

The northern portal is where trains will enter and exit Cross River Rail’s twin tunnels and is located in the rail corridor at Normanby.

Preparations for the arrival of the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) later this month continue as the team works 24/7 to finish excavating the TBM extraction box. Construction of the portal structure is also progressing, with the first pre-cast roof components installed last month.

Victoria Park – Site access changes

From late August, changes will be made to the existing Northern Tunnel Portal site access at Victoria Park to prepare for removal of the Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) with oversized vehicles.

An underground sewer main located under the rail corridor at Normanby and within Victoria Park will be relocated approximately 300 metres east. Construction access will be via existing footpaths and access roads in Victoria Park.

From December 2020 for approximately four months, an underground sewer main located under the rail corridor at Normanby and within Victoria Park will be relocated approximately 300 metres east to enable construction of the Cross River Rail Northern Portal.
