Northern Tunnel Portal Construction

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2-kilometre rail line. It includes 5.9 kilometres of twin tunnels from a southern portal near Dutton Park station under the Brisbane River and the Brisbane CBD.

The northern portal is where trains will enter and exit Cross River Rail’s twin tunnels and is located in the rail corridor at Normanby.

Northern Tunnel Portal construction update - April 2021

Construction of the Northern Tunnel Portal continues with piling and excavation ongoing and relocation of the sewer main in Victoria Park scheduled for completion this month.

On Wednesday 27 January 2021 between 10pm and 2am, the Victoria Park shared user path behind the Brisbane Girls Grammar School will be temporarily diverted to enable service investigations.

Weekend rail corridor works at the Northern Tunnel Portal. Sewer relocation activities will also be undertaken within Victoria Park. Site access via Gregory Terrace and Gilchrist Avenue

The Cross River Rail team will be working in the rail corridor for extended periods at the Northern Tunnel Portal construction site in January 2021.

The Victoria Park shared user path behind Brisbane Girls Grammar School will be temporarily closed to enable the relocation of a sewer main. Pedestrians and cyclists will be diverted via Gregory Terrace and College Road during the closure.

Construction update Normanby rail corridor and Victoria Park

Between December 2020 and January 2021, UNITY Alliance will be required to undertake works for several activities including drainage, relocation of public utilities, decommissioning of redundant rail infrastructure and track construction in the Normanby rail corridor and Victoria Park area.

The Victoria Park shared user path will be closed between College Road and the land bridge. A temporary cycle lane will be established on Gregory Terrace and College Road.

The Victoria Park shared user path behind Brisbane Girls Grammar School will be temporarily closed to enable the relocation of a sewer main. Pedestrians and cyclists will be diverted via Gregory Terrace and College Road during the closure.

An underground sewer main located under the rail corridor at Normanby and within Victoria Park will be relocated approximately 300 metres east. Construction access will be via existing footpaths and access roads in Victoria Park.

From December 2020 for approximately four months, an underground sewer main located under the rail corridor at Normanby and within Victoria Park will be relocated approximately 300 metres east to enable construction of the Cross River Rail Northern Portal.
