Albert Street Construction

The new Cross River Rail Albert Street underground station will provide improved public transport to residents, students and workers in the southern end of the city, creating a new hub at the corner of Albert and Mary Streets. A second station access point near Elizabeth Street will provide easy access to the Queen Street Mall.

To enable construction of Cross River Rail, the section of Albert Street between Mary and Charlotte streets is now closed to vehicles. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction. For the latest information, check out the links below.

Mary Street works

Mary Street works

Throughout November and December, site establishment works, including the installation of pedestrian protection gantries and hoardings, is continuing on Mary Street in the vicinity of the Albert Street worksite. These works will require temporary footpath and lane closures.

To enable construction of the new underground station at Albert Street, starting from mid-October buildings at the intersection of Albert Street and Mary Street will be demolished.

From 30 September 2019, the Cross River Rail Tunnel & Stations (T&S) contractor will close the section of Albert Street between Mary and Charlotte streets to enable the safe construction of the Cross River Rail project and the new Albert Street Station.
