Albert Street Construction

The new Cross River Rail Albert Street underground station will provide improved public transport to residents, students and workers in the southern end of the city, creating a new hub at the corner of Albert and Mary Streets. A second station access point near Elizabeth Street will provide easy access to the Queen Street Mall.

To enable construction of Cross River Rail, the section of Albert Street between Mary and Elizabeth streets is now closed to vehicles (access to the Royal Albert Hotel is maintained). Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout construction. For the latest information, check out the links below.

Albert Street station construction update - April and May 2025

In April and May and throughout 2025, the acoustic shed at Lot 2 will be removed in sections, jump form construction is ongoing at Lot 1, and mechanical and electrical installation is ongoing as well as fit-out on the station’s canopy roof at the northern station entrance site (Lot 3).

From Monday 28 April 2025, lane closures will be in place on Mary Street for approximately two weeks to allow a mobile crane to safely remove the front sections of the Lot 2 acoustic shed

Extended: Albert Street night-time footpath closures - April 2025

From Tuesday, 22 April, for approximately one week, there will be nightly footpath closures in front of the northern station entrance (Lot 3) between 6:30 PM and 6:30 AM. These closures are necessary to finalize the painting of the station’s canopy roof.

Mary Street and Albert Street Temporary Intersection Closure - April 2025

From 7pm Thursday 17 April to 6am Tuesday 22 April 2025, a temporary full road closure of the Albert and Mary Street intersection will be required to install permanent underground services.
