The new Cross River Rail underground station will see Roma Street become Brisbane’s most connected transport precinct.

A new underground station at Roma Street will link passengers with the existing suburban bus and rail networks, the Brisbane City Council Metro services, as well as regional and interstate bus and train services.

Roma Street station construction update - April and May 2025

The Roma Street station fit-out is progressing, with artwork installation complete and tiling underway on the new platforms. Work continues underground and within the main station building, with a focus on mechanical and electrical fit-out, as well as lift and escalator installation.

UPDATED: Roma Street – temporary eastbound lane and northern footpath closures

Due to recent weather conditions, work to install façade and architectural panels on the Services Building at Roma Street will continue until early May 2025. Closures of the northern footpath and an eastbound lane on Roma Street to support this activity will continue intermittently. Access for vehicles travelling eastbound on Roma Street will be maintained during the work.

Throughout 2025, the Cross River Rail Tunnel & Stations contractor will continue construction of the permanent underground stormwater infrastructure including pipes, manholes and gully pits within the intersection of Roma Street and Makerston Street.
