Asphalt works – Pimpama station
Construction of the new Pimpama station access road is being undertaken as an early works package. The works commenced in late-2021 and includes a new signalised intersection at Bedford Road and Old Pacific Highway, access road into the site, associated drainage works and connecting pedestrian and cycle pathways.
Details of works
From week commencing Monday 24 October 2022, asphalt works will be undertaken along the Old Pacific Highway near Pimpama Jacobs Well Road, weather permitting. If works are delayed for any reason, works will occur on the next business day.
For information regarding these changes, please see the map below.
What to expect
There will be changed traffic conditions including reduced speed limits, road barriers and signage. Traffic controllers will also be in place to manage the flow of traffic.
Single lane traffic flow will be implemented temporarily to allow works to be undertaken safely.
Road users may experience minor delays during these works and are reminded to drive to changed traffic conditions, observe construction signage and follow the directions of traffic controllers.
During these works, residents may experience an increase in noise, dust and an increase of workers, vehicles and mobile equipment in the area, including a small profiler and paver truck.
Driveway access for residents along Old Pacific Highway will be maintained during these works.
Asphalt works area
Works will be undertaken between 6.30am until 6.30pm Monday to Saturday. Asphalt works and truck movements will be reduced during peak hour periods to minimise impacts to motorists.
Construction of the new signalised intersection, drainage works and connecting pedestrian and cycle pathways will be undertaken in a staged approach to maintain traffic flow along the Old Pacific Highway. Works include:
- Drainage and utility relocation – excavation and installation of culverts under the Old Pacific Highway and relocation of utilities: Underway
- New access road – earthworks, road surfacing, line marking, median island and kerb construction.
- Intersection – road resurfacing, electrical works including signal installation, landscaping, asphalt works, line marking, pedestrian pathways, island and kerb construction.
The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is currently out to market for the main station construction contract, with procurement activities continuing throughout 2022.
