Signalling work & system testing - February 2023
Construction work is nearing completion and system testing is continuing along the Shorncliffe Line to deliver Brisbane’s new railway signalling system as part of the Cross River Rail Project.
Details of work
During February, construction work will continue in the rail corridor at sites between Northgate and Shorncliffe stations. System testing will also be carried out.
Activities along the rail corridor will include electrical works, excavation, replacement of cable trough lids, and equipment testing.
Day works during February are scheduled between Monday and Friday from 6.00am until 6.00pm.
Some activities will be undertaken outside normal construction hours, as per below (weather and construction conditions permitting).
Between Bindha and Shorncliffe, and between 2:00am Saturday 4 and 11:59pm on Sunday 5 February, the following works will occur:
- Replacement of cable trough lids including hand excavation and hand tools only (between Banyo and Northgate stations)
- System testing
From Northgate to Banyo, and between 10.00pm and 4.30am on Friday 10 February, Tuesday 14 to Thursday 16 February, Monday 20 to Thursday 23 February, Sunday 26 February and Tuesday 28 February, the following works will occur:
- Replacement of cable trough lids including hand excavation and hand tools only (between Banyo and Northgate stations)
- Electrical works using hand tools only.

What to expect if you live alongside the rail corridor
Residents along the rail corridor may see dust and hear noise associated with works (e.g. machinery, light vehicles and work personnel); and mobile lighting towers in work areas during night works. All staff will be fully briefed about their community responsibilities in relation to minimising noise and disruption after hours.
Small generators will be used periodically over the coming months to support system testing at the radio mast and antenna sites at Sandgate, North Boondall, Nudgee and Northgate. Temporary noise barriers have been installed at North Boondall, Nudgee and Northgate to minimise noise for nearby residents.
What to expect if you’re a rail customer
There will continue to be car park changes at North Boondall station. Minor changes to the Deagon station car park may also be required to facilitate works. See local signage for details.
Cross River Rail will transform how we travel to, from, and through Brisbane in the future. But building Cross River Rail means changes during construction.
