Incident at Boggo Road worksite – Update 7/8/23

Our thoughts remain with Mr Kouka, his loved ones and his colleagues.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland’s (WHSQ) investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Safety reviews

The safety review process is continuing across Cross River Rail sites in a staged manner, with construction work resuming in several locations.

The on-site contractors, unions and site-based health and safety representatives continue to work together methodically through the process.

The safety review process has been extremely thorough, with sites and documentation audited extensively, including scaffolding, access and egress; cranage and lifting methods; and general housekeeping.

Any issues that have been identified have either been rectified immediately, or logged to be completed as soon as practicable.

While the project’s safety record is significantly better than industry averages, the recent incident is a reminder we cannot be complacent.

These safety reviews will only help the project maintain its already strong safety record and culture of continual safety improvement.
