Cross River Rail's hidden engineering marvel

Did you see us on ABC?

The ABC recently featured a video about one of the hidden engineering marvels helping to build Cross River Rail, known as “underpinning”.

It’s a sophisticated engineering method that allows crews to safely tunnel beneath existing infrastructure on the surface, including an active busway.

The technique was used on the project’s Roma Street and Southern Portal sites, and has meant bus services on the Inner Northern Busway and trains on the freight flyover near Boggo Road could continue with minimal impact.

If you missed it, you can watch it in the video below.
