Merrimac station - Early works and site investigations

Cross River Rail is transforming the way we travel across all of South East Queensland. The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is continuing with planning and delivery of three new rail stations on the Gold Coast Line to help connect South East Queensland’s growing population. Stations are being delivered at Pimpama, Hope Island and Merrimac.

Fulton Hogan has been appointed as the contractor to finalise the design and build Merrimac station. Over the coming months, early works will increase on the site and surrounding areas, in preparation for major construction to start in 2024.

Details of works

From late July 2023, site investigations will increase in areas including the rail reserve (eastern railway reserve and western railway reserves) and Gooding Drive.

Workers and construction vehicles will access these areas via Entry Drive, Willunga Place, Crelga Court and Jura Parade / Bourton Road intersection.

Activities will include:

  • Surveying of the site and public utilities such as water, electricity and gas.
  • Utility identification for sewer and stormwater requiring hydro vacuum potholing.
  • Geotechnical investigations, pit excavations, pavement coring, bore hole drilling and soil testing.
  • Minor slashing of grass and vegetation removal is required for these activities.
  • Establishment of a temporary office (portable caravan) at the eastern railway reserve and temporary toilet facilities at both the western and eastern sides of the railway reserves.

During these early works, standard work times are between 6:30am and 6:30pm Monday to Friday. When night works are required, these will be between 7:00pm and 6:00am Sunday to Thursday night. The community will be notified in advance of night works.

These investigations will continue until late 2023, weather and site conditions permitting, and will be used to further refine the station design.

What to expect

Residents may notice an increase in construction workers, vehicles and some noise in the area, with teams gaining access to the rail corridor and surrounding areas via Entry Drive, Crelga Court and Willunga Place.

To allow us to work safely, intermittent overnight single lane closures and speed reduction will be in place on Gooding Drive, in both directions between Ghilgai Road and the rail overpass in August, from 7:00pm to 6:00am (weekdays only).

Traffic management and road signage will be in place at night to assist and direct motorists in the area during these activities.

Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum for residents and businesses in close proximity to the project site. We appreciate your patience while we undertake these works.
