Merrimac station - Gooding Drive roadworks

Fulton Hogan are progressing with major construction of the new Merrimac station. From August 2025, activities to construct the new signalised intersection will commence on Gooding Drive in both directions.

This will include changes to footpaths, access, haulage routes and road conditions, including a 40km/hr speed limit during works. Works will be completed during both day and night shifts. Some activities can only be undertaken at night due to safety and traffic management requirements.

Construction activities:

  • Demolition and construction of centre median, kerb, pram ramps and footpaths
  • Road pavement and surface construction, including asphalt works in both directions, path and verge works
  • Demolition and relocation of utility and drainage services
  • Removal and installation of lighting, fencing, guardrail and barrier movement
  • Construction of right and left-hand turning lanes into the station
  • Ongoing retaining wall construction, concreting and earthworks
  • Line marking removal and placement
  • Temporary removal of part of Gooding Drive noise barrier (eastbound) and reinstatement
  • Vegetation clearing, in accordance with relevant approvals, with fauna spotters / catchers present
  • Landscaping, signage and traffic signalling equipment installation

Night works

Intermittent night works will occur on Gooding Drive in both directions from August 2025 through into 2026.

These activities can only be undertaken at night due to safety, program and traffic management requirements.

What to expect

  • Construction activities may generate increased levels of heavy vehicles, noise, vibration and dust. Every effort will be made to keep these to a minimum
  • An increase in workers and construction presence on Gooding Drive, including intermittent noise at night
  • Intermittent use of mobile lighting towers on Gooding Drive. Every effort will be made to position light sources away from properties
  • Workers and light vehicles accessing site via Entry Drive, Crelga Court, Nisbet Place and Willunga Place
  • The use of machinery including trucks (including water and fuel carts), graders, excavators, vac trucks, asphalt pavers, profilers, cranes, chainsaws, drill rigs, earth moving machinery, rollers, boom lifts, concrete trucks, vibration hammers, cable hauling equipment and hand-held tools
  • All works subject to change due to construction and weather conditions.


 

Traffic and pedestrian changes

  • Intermittent single-lane closures, alignment changes, reduced speed limits, and short delays on Gooding Drive in both directions between Ghilgai Road and Bourton Road, including a 40 km/h limit during work activities
  • Reduction in lane widths and changes to lane alignments where required
  • Traffic management and road signage in place
  • Short-term changes to haulage routes, requiring heavy vehicles and trucks to temporarily access the work site via Entry Drive
  • Ongoing temporary changes to pedestrian access around Gooding Drive. Signage and traffic control will be present to assist pedestrians and cyclists
