Mary Street temporary full road closure - March 2025
From 7pm Wednesday 5 March to 4am Thursday 6 March, a section of Mary Street will be closed to vehicle traffic in both directions near the Albert Street intersection.
This closure is required to trim vegetation adjacent to the Albert Street main station entrance (Lot 1).
Work details:
- Implementing traffic control arrangements.
- Use of machinery including elevated work platforms, mulching equipment, lighting towers, and hand tools.
- Trimming vegetation on Mary Street.
Work hours:
The activity and associated traffic changes will be undertaken between 7pm Wednesday 5 March and 4am Thursday 6 March.
This work is required to be undertaken at night due to traffic permit requirements.
Work is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions.
What to expect:
- Temporary vehicle and pedestrian detours.
- Increase in noise, dust, vibration, and worksite lighting.
- Increase in personnel carrying out works.
Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of this work on businesses, residents, and commuters.

Traffic and pedestrian impacts:
- Westbound traffic on Mary Street will be diverted via Albert Street and Alice Street.
- Eastbound traffic on Mary Street will continue to be diverted via George Street and Elizabeth Street towards Edward Street.
- Northbound traffic on Albert Street can turn right into Mary Street and continue eastbound.
- Pedestrians on the southern footpath of Mary Street will be temporarily stopped when required and escorted through the work area under direction of traffic control.
- Continued closure of the Mary Street northern footpath adjacent to the lot 1 work site.
- Access to properties will be maintained throughout the work, and traffic control will be in place to assist.
