Once trains start running through the new twin tunnels beneath the Brisbane River and CBD in 2029, the way trains run on the wider South East Queensland rail network will also be rearranged – trains will run directly from the Sunshine Coast, through Brisbane and down to the Gold Coast.

Not only will this create a direct connection for South East Queensland’s three largest population hubs, it will also link game changing projects like The Wave on the Sunshine Coast with the new Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail track duplication, which is designed to improve train travel between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

This new rail route will also have capacity to run increased express services, and as they pass through Brisbane, passengers will benefit from new underground stations in convenient locations.

In 2032, this same spine will then connect major venue hubs in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
