New Pimpama train station is officially open

Almost 1000 commuters caught a train from Pimpama station on its first day of operation, new figures reveal.

Translink data shows that there were 977 boardings at Pimpama station on Monday 20 October, indicating immediate demand for the new station in the fast-growing northern Gold Coast suburb.

The station, which sits between Ormeau station to the north and Coomera station to the south, was the first station to open on the Gold Coast in 16 years and gives residents more options to travel to work, school, medical and leisure activities.

The modern and accessible station features 380 car parks, a pedestrian overpass with lifts on each platform, a 40-bicycle lock-up enclosure, lighting and CCTV throughout.

There’s also 10 accessible carparking spaces, braille and tactile station maps, hearing aid loop coverage, lifts and seating.

The opening of the station meant slight train timetable changes for those travelling on parts of the Gold Coast line, with local bus routes also realigned to integrate with new station and updated rail timetables.

Trains arrive at Pimpama station approximately every 10 minutes during peak times and then every 30 minutes during off peak times, every day of the week.

This means more than 90 services running through this new station each weekday and at least 70 services each weekend day, allowing customers plenty of options to get to where they need to go.
