Gold Coast stations community consultation yields results
Project Updates
01 Nov 2019
The population of the Gold Coast is growing and to ensure residents benefit from the increased rail services that will be made possible by Cross River Rail, three new stations will be planned and delivered at Pimpama, Helensvale North and Merrimac.
On 9 October 2019, the specific locations for these stations were announced as:
- Pimpama station to be located off the Old Pacific Highway
- Helensvale North station to be located next to Mangrove Jack Park, off Hope Island Road
- Merrimac station to be located on Gooding Drive, approximately 750 metres east of the Pacific Motorway and Gooding Drive Interchange.
Locations for the stations were determined after detailed options analysis, which considered many factors including gradient of rail line, road access and pedestrian connectivity.
Concept designs for each station were opened up for community consultation from October 9 to November 8, with over 780 individual responses received and providing feedback on a wide variety of topics.
Popular themes in the feedback included making sure that each station has capacity for sufficient car parking, suitable connections to existing other public transport, roads and footpaths.
This feedback will now be used to inform and finalise station designs, with construction of the stations expected to commence within 2020-21.
