Art meets Underground as Cross River Rail partners with Brisbane Festival for opening weekend of 2020 program

Cross River Rail has partnered with this year’s Brisbane Festival, as a unique and innovative way of reminding the public about construction activities at its major worksites.

“It is important we keep the community informed about construction activity and find ways to remind the public about our major worksites,” Cross River Rail Delivery Authority CEO Graeme Newton said.

“And with Brisbane Festival pivoting this year to a series of smaller, pop-up performances at multiple city locations, we saw a great opportunity for a project that will transform the city of Brisbane in the future, to combine with an iconic festival that has come to define the city to date.”

Cross River Rail is partnering with Brisbane Festival 2020 to present three key events:

  • All You Need Is Love, the opening weekend performances of a ‘love-filled’ brass band and dance troupe flash-mob, that will pop up across Brisbane throughout the festival.
  • A Roma Street Serenade, which will see Tyrone Noonan performing from one of the Festival’s travelling Street Serenade stages in Roma St parklands this Sunday at 1pm
  • A very special Art meets Underground performance unlike any other, that will be revealed part way through the festival.

“We look forward to creating some really engaging content that the public can enjoy online and as part of the Festival’s approach to smaller, more COVID safe events,” Mr Newton said.

“And of course, the more we can engage the public online, the more we can make sure they are aware of what is going on at our various inner-city worksites and are reminded of the information services available at our website.”
