Gibbon Street traffic changes
From mid-August 2025 for approximately six weeks, a full road closure will be in place at the intersection of Gibbon Street and the Stanley Street service road to install underground services and reinstate the road surface.
This work and associated traffic changes will take place continuously during both day and night shifts.
Work details
Work will involve installation of new sewer infrastructure and resurfacing the road between Gibbon Street and the Stanley Street service road. Activities will include:
- Site establishment and traffic control set up
- Removing of existing road surface using excavators, jackhammers and vacuum excavators
- CCTV inspection of the existing sewer pit
- Demolishing concrete benching
- Raising existing manhole, reinstating the temporary platforms, installing new sewer pipe and reinstating concrete
- Road resurfacing with profilers and vibratory equipment
- Backfill, reinstatement and line marking on the road
What to expect
- Temporary vehicle and pedestrian detours
- Use of machinery including vacuum excavation trucks, road saws, generators, compressors, excavators, haulage vehicles, lighting units and hand tools
- Increase in noise, dust, vibration and worksite lighting
- Increase in personnel carrying out works
- No service outages are expected for local residents during this work
Full road closure on Gibbon Street from mid-August 2025.
Traffic and pedestrian changes
- Vehicle access from Stanley Street onto Gibbon Street will be closed
- Access from Gibbon Street onto the Stanley Street service road will be closed
- A vehicles detour will be place via Ipswich Road and Hawthorne Street
- Access to properties, businesses and the cycle path will be maintained
- Traffic control will remain in place to assist motorists, pedestrians and cyclists

All works are subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions.
In the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances, works may be rescheduled.
Advance notification will be provided for any changes.
