UPDATE: Planned track closures extended

Due to protected industrial action over the Easter long weekend, the current scheduled track closures need to be extended until Thursday 30 April.  

The extension will allow critical works on multiple major rail projects to be undertaken safely and efficiently. 

Different lines will be impacted at different times throughout April, so please consider your transport options, plan ahead and allow extra travel time.  

Rail replacement buses will operate during the closure to keep people moving.

The updated dates of the track closures are:  

  • Caboolture to Gympie North – will now continue for one extra day, reopening on 13 April.  
  • Bowen Hills to Eagle Junction and Northgate - will now continue for four extra days, reopening on 16 April.   
  • Boggo Road to Banoon – will now continue for four extra days, reopening on 1 May.

Building you a better rail network

These works are part of a network-wide rail program including rail upgrades on the Sunshine Coast,the new underground line through Brisbane, new digital signalling and the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project.

Works across multiple rail projects have been scheduled together during April which include major bridge works, significant track removal and realignment, installation of signalling and cable infrastructure, large-scale drainage as well as building and upgrading train stations.

  • Monday 20 to Friday 24 April

    • Airport line trains will run between Domestic Airport and Cleveland line stations from first service until 7:30pm. After 7:30pm, Airport line services will run between Domestic Airport and Boggo Road stations
    • If you’re travelling towards the Gold Coast catch a train to Boggo Road station and transfer to a railbus.
    • Doomben line trains terminate at Eagle Junction station and will be 3-car trains only with minor timetable changes
    • If you’re travelling towards the city, catch a train to Eagle Junction station and transfer to a city bound train.
    • Ferny Grove line trains will run between Boggo Road and Ferny Grove stations
    • On Wednesday 22 April, catch a rail bus from Roma Street for services after 9:30pm
    • Shorncliffe line trains will run between Sandgate and terminate at Roma Street until 7.30pm, then link to the Cleveland line as per normal.
    • Shorncliffe station is closed for an accessibility upgrade.
    • Beenleigh and Gold Coast line trains will run as a combined all stops service between Varsity Lakes and Banoon stations. This train will run to an altered timetable, there will be no express train
    • There will be plenty of buses available, including express and all stops services.
    • If you’re travelling to the city, catch an express railbus from Fruitgrove
    • If you’re travelling to Boggo Road station and beyond, catch an express railbus to Boggo Road station and transfer to a train.
    • If you’re travelling to stations between Banoon and Boggo Road, you can catch the all stops bus or the StationLink route 19 between PA Hospital and Rocklea station
    • If you’re travelling to the Airport, catch an express bus to Boggo Road and transfer to a train or catch an express bus from Banoon to Eagle Junction.
    • On Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 April, buses will replace trains on all lines between Bowen Hills and Albion to Boggo Road and Milton after 9:30pm
    • On Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 April, buses will replace trains on all lines between Bowen Hills and Albion to Boggo Road and Milton after 9:30pm
    • On Wednesday 22 April, catch a railbus from Roma Street for services after 9:30pm
    • On Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 April, buses will operate all lines between Bowen Hills and Albion to Boggo Road and Milton after 9.30 pm
    • On Wednesday 22 April, railbuses will operate between Roma Street and Northgate and to Ferny Grove for services after 9.30pm
    • On Thursday 23 April, rail buses will operate between Bowen Hills and Northgate from 10:30pm.

  • Saturday 25 April to Sunday 26 April

    • Special arrangements with additional services to support Anzac Day events will be in place.
    • Beenleigh and Gold Coast line trains will run as a combined all stops service between Varsity Lakes and Banoon stations; there will be no express train. This train will run to an altered timetable

    • If you’re travelling to stations between Banoon and Boggo Road, catch an all stops bus or catch the StationLink route 19 between PA Hospital and Rocklea station
