Shorncliffe line track closures
The Shorncliffe line is the pilot line for testing a new digital signalling system, the European Train Control System (ETCS). ETCS is progressively being installed to key parts of the South East Queensland rail network, including in the Cross River Rail tunnels and on the Gold Coast line between Beenleigh and Varsity Lakes stations.
This means changes to travel and transport services on the Shorncliffe line during 2025 and into 2026. There are upcoming changes from:
- Monday 4 to Thursday 7 August
- Monday 1 to Thursday 4 September
Buses will replace trains between Northgate and Shorncliffe stations.
In conjunction with weeknight closures, extended weekday closures on the Shorncliffe line are ongoing throughout 2025 and into 2026. This will facilitate the ongoing reliability of the system, to train staff in its use, and collect performance data of ETCS fitted trains.
Travel information
- Shorncliffe line trains will continue to run between Northgate and Roma Street stations
- Express railbus R347 will be available between Northgate and Sandgate stations from first service to 7pm
