Installation of signalling infrastructure – February and March 2025

A world-class signalling system is being installed in South East Queensland as part of the Cross River Rail Project.

Already operating in cities around the world, the European Train Control System (ETCS) is an advanced digital signalling system. Set to revolutionise rail, it will result in smart, safe and seamless travel – increasing capacity, efficiency and reliability, and ensuring continued safety of services. For passengers, ETCS will mean less disruptions, less time waiting, and will improve the flow of real-time information so you always know how the trains are running.

Details of work

Construction work will be undertaken in the rail corridor between 6.00am and 6.00pm on:

  • Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 February
  • Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 March
  • Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 March

This work will include the installation of cable routes within the rail corridor. Equipment to be used will include rail drills, a jack hammer, an excavator and a crane truck.

What to expect if you live alongside the rail corridor

Residents along the rail corridor may see dust and hear noise associated with works (e.g. machinery, light vehicles and work personnel). All staff will be fully briefed about their community responsibilities in relation to minimising noise and disruption after hours. Every effort will be taken to minimise disruption to surrounding residents and businesses. All activities will be undertaken in accordance with relevant regulations.

Thank you for your patience as we build a world-class signalling system. If you would like further information or have questions, please contact us on telephone 1800 010 875 or email [email protected].
