Temporary bus lane closure – George Street
From mid-October 2025 for approximately six weeks, the George Street bus lane near Herschel Street will be temporarily closed to support additional construction activities.
Following the closure, works will be undertaken during both day and night and will include modification to signalised intersections, footpaths, cycle infrastructure and landscaping.
Work details
Work will involve:
- Installing site fencing, hoarding and road safety barriers around the work area
- Mobilisation of plant and equipment
- Demolition and excavation works
- Concreting, footpath resurfacing and landscaping
- Asphalting and resurfacing works
- Installation/removal of traffic signage infrastructure and street furniture.

Public transport changes
During the closure, Herschel Street Stop 1 near North Quay (Stop ID: 000001) and Roma Street Stop 124 at Roma Street station (Stop ID: 000124) will be temporarily closed.
Buses will stop at North Quay Stop 106 near Herschel St (Stop ID: 000106).

Work hours
Construction activities and the associated closure will occur during both day and night shift (24/7). Work is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions.
What to expect
- The use of equipment including road saws and jackhammers, vacuum excavation trucks, asphalting work, generators, lighting towers and hand tools
- Increased noise, dust and vibration. Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum
- Increased deliveries, movement of plant, machinery and equipment
- Increase in personnel carrying out the work
