Temporary Bus Lane Closure – George Street
From 7pm on Tuesday 3 March to 6am on Friday 6 March 2026, the George Street bus lane near the Herschel Street intersection will be temporarily closed to support signalling and utility work and installation of street furniture, within the Herschel Street work area.
Following the closure, work within the Herschel Street work area will continue, and will be undertaken during day and night shift.
Work Details
- Installation of site fencing, hoarding and road safety barriers around the work area
- Mobilisation of plant and equipment
- Installation/removal of traffic signage infrastructure and street furniture.

Public Transport Changes
During the closure, Herschel Street Stop 1 near North Quay (Stop ID: 000001) will be temporarily closed. Buses will stop at North Quay Stop 106 near Herschel Street (Stop ID: 000106). Please refer to signage at the impacted stop for location of alternate stop.
Due to the detour, Roma Street Stop 124 at Roma Street station (Stop ID: 000124) will also be closed and those passengers directed to North Quay Stop 106 near Herschel Street (Stop ID: 000106) as well.

Work Hours
Construction activities and the associated closure will occur during both day and night shifts (24/7).
Work is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions.
What to Expect
During the construction period, you may notice:
- The use of equipment including road saws and jackhammers, vacuum excavation trucks, generators, lighting towers and hand tools
- Increased noise, dust and vibration. Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum
- Increased deliveries, movement of plant, machinery and equipment
- Increase in personnel carrying out the work.
