Roma Street main station building scaffold works - changes to traffic and pedestrian arrangements
From late May to late June 2025, scaffold works will be carried out on the new Roma Street station building. This work will take place during both day and night shifts.
The eastbound lane on Roma Street will be temporarily closed. Access for vehicles travelling eastbound on Roma Street will be maintained. Access to Roma Street station and bus stops will be maintained at all times.
Work details
Work will involve:
- Implementing traffic control arrangements.
- Lifting and installing scaffold at the Main Station building.
Traffic and pedestrian changes
The following changes will be in place during the work:
- Closure of sections of the eastbound lane on Roma Street. Eastbound access will be maintained for vehicles.
- Changes to pedestrian crossing across Roma Street at Makerston Street during both day and night shifts.
- Traffic control to assist motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
- Access to bus stops on Roma Street will be maintained at all times.

Work hours
Work will be occurring during both day and night shift for the scaffolding work. Lane closures will take place in two stages as below:
- Stage 1: Late-May to mid-June 2025
Works will occur during both day and night shifts: 9:00am to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 4:00am, Monday to Saturday - Stage 2: Mid-to-late June 2025
Works will occur during night shifts only: 7:00pm to 4:00am, Monday to Saturday
What to expect
- Increase in noise, dust and vibration associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment.
- Changes to traffic arrangements and pedestrian detours. Please see map overleaf for information.
- An increase in construction workers and vehicles in the area.
