Work is underway on Brisbane's new underground

With major construction now underway at all of Cross River Rail’s main station sites as well as multiple locations within the rail corridor, our work sites are constantly evolving and changing.

Around Our Work Sites

Updates from around our worksites up to 15 May 2026 include:

Tunnels

The final section of the hydrant pipe installation has now been completed underground, while fit-out including installation of acoustic panels is continuing.

Underground stations

At Roma Street, the roof and walls of the acoustic shed have been removed, with demolition of the structural slab to take place in the coming months. At the main station building, architectural finishes and fit-out works are progressing at platform level, while testing of escalators and passenger information displays continues throughout the station.

At Albert Street, works on the Green Spine are continuing. Installation of the canopy skylights and flood mitigation at the main station has now been completed.

At Woolloongabba, borehole drilling for the future arena has commenced. Testing of station lighting has begun, while testing of escalators continues.

At Boggo Road, tiling on the mezzanine and platform levels is nearing completion. Works are continuing on the installation of the passenger lift, safety screens and access stairs on Yamma Bridge.

Above Ground Stations

At Exhibition, the station has been handed over to Queensland Rail, with the station now available for special events at the RNA showgrounds, including the Ekka.

At Dutton Park, the Kent Street entrance under Annerley Road (the station’s third entry point) was opened to the public on 27 January 2026. Minor works are continuing on the rail maintenance access road at Fenton Street and within the rail corridor, including the installation of signalling equipment, cable routes and drainage.

At Yeerongpilly, the station reopened to customers in February 2025 following a full accessibility upgrade. Some works are continuing within the rail corridor and adjacent to the station, including earthworks for drainage, the installation of signalling equipment and track modifications.

At Moorooka, canopy steel has been installed on Platform 3. The former island platform, including the old station buildings, has been demolished and removed. Piling is now underway for the future pedestrian overpass, station building and platforms.

At Salisbury, the station is now open to the public. Some minor finishing works are continuing at the station, as well as construction works in the rail corridor, including installation of European Train Control System digital signalling equipment.

At Pimpama, the station is now open to the public.

At Hope Island, the station is now open to the public.

At Merrimac, activities to construct the new signalised intersection access at Gooding Drive are continuing.

Train Stabling Facilities and Rail

In the Southern and Northern areas, overhead line equipment was installed, bridge and viaduct works continued and some signalling relocation works were completed.

At Clapham Yard, works have focused on construction the viaduct and in the yard itself.

At Mayne Yard, the focus was formation works around Breakfast Creek, with works including removing and reconstructing the down and up main line tracks, installing the overhead line equipment, drainage works, and testing and commissioning signals.

European Train Control System – ETCS

ETCS assets are being progressively installed throughout the tunnel and are nearing completion.

Sequence has begun Site Acceptance Testing Level 1 (the first phase of testing) for the signalling system across all four underground stations, marking a major step forward.
