Pimpama station construction update - December 2022 to January 2023

ADCO Constructions are continuing with site establishment activities along Kosciuszko Circuit and Gainsborough Drive, and will commence early construction works within the rail corridor from December 2022.

Construction of the new Pimpama station access road and associated drainage are ongoing with excavation and utility relocation works continuing along the Old Pacific Highway between Bedford Road and Mebbin Street.

 
Construction activities will be reduced between Friday 23 December 2022 and Tuesday 3 January 2023 for the holiday period, though changed traffic conditions will remain in place.
 

Major construction – final design and construction

Site establishment – corner of Mebbin Street and Gainsborough Drive, and adjacent to Kosciusko Circuit and Great Sandy Circuit

The below works will be undertaken between 6.30am until 6.30pm Monday to Saturday. Truck movements will be reduced during peak hour periods to minimise impacts to motorists.

Throughout December and January, site establishment activities will continue. Activities will include:

  • Installing temporary construction fencing around the work areas.
  • Removal of existing fencing adjacent to the rail corridor.
  • Vegetation removal within the work site
  • Constructing a site access and implementing associated traffic changes to enable ongoing access to the work area.
  • Minor earthworks to level areas for temporary site office buildings and parking.
  • Mobilising construction machinery, site office buildings and worker facilities.

Access to surrounding properties will be maintained during the works.
 

Rail corridor works access – adjacent to Kosciuszko Circuit and Great Sandy Circuit

Rail corridor works are scheduled to commence and are planned occur outside the project’s normal working hours but are timed to take place within a planned rail track closure. You may notice workers in the area before and after these works occurring.

Rail corridor works are scheduled for:

  • 12pm Friday, 9 December 2022 to 11am Sunday, 11 December 2022
  • 2am Saturday, 21 January 2023 to 2am Monday, 23 January 2023
  • 2am Saturday, 28 January 2023 to 2am Monday, 31 January 2023

Rail corridor work in December and January will include:

  • Vegetation removal
  • Inground utility relocations
  • Installation of foundations and masts for overhead line electrification
  • Bulk earthwork excavation.

 

Early Works – station access road and drainage

Drainage excavation – western side of the Old Pacific Highway between Bedford Road and Mebbin Street.

The below works will be undertaken between 6.30am until 6.30pm Monday to Saturday. Truck movements will be reduced during peak hour periods to minimise impacts to motorists.

  • Drainage excavation on the western side of the Old Pacific Highway
  • Installation of steel reinforcement and concrete placement
  • Vegetation clearing within the work site including Old Pacific Highway and on the corner of Bedford Road
  • Temporary changes to pedestrian movements around the work site (see map below for more information)
  • Temporary closure of access into Bedford Road from the Old Pacific Highway (see map below for more information)
  • Line marking on Old Pacific Highway to move restricted lanes to the east
  • Pavement works and kerb restoration
  • Utility works on Bedford Road including installation conduits, pits and a new watermain
  • Excavation and installation of new drainage culverts within the station site.

What to expect

  • Construction activities may generate increased levels of noise, dust and vibration in the area associated with the works being undertaken.
  • Lighting will be required during the rail corridor works.
  • Increase in workforce and construction vehicle movements around the station site for transport of materials, equipment and machinery.
  • Pedestrian access along Kosciusko Circuit, Great Sandy Circuit and Gainsborough Drive will be maintained during these works with traffic control in place to assist pedestrians.
