Yeronga pedestrian overpass demolition

Over the weekend of 31 July 2021, the UNITY Alliance will demolish the Fairfield Road concrete pedestrian overpass at Yeronga to make way for construction of a new pedestrian overpass connecting into the upgraded Yeronga station.

 

Hours of work

These activities will occur outside the project’s normal working hours as outlined below, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Stage 1 – Fairfield Road 7:00pm Saturday, 31 July to 7:00am Sunday, 1 August 2021

Works will be occurring continuously during this time and will include:

  • Demolition of the concrete pedestrian overpass. Traffic arrangements are outlined below for Stage 1.
  • Demolition involves saw cutting concrete piers and bridge joins and using cranes to lower beams and piers onto haulage trucks for removal from site.

Stage 2 – Fairfield Road 7:00am to 7:00pm Sunday, 1 August 2021

Works will be occurring continuously during this time and will include:

  • Continued demolition of the concrete pedestrian overpass. Traffic arrangements are outlined below for Stage 2.
  • Demolition involves saw cutting concrete piers and bridge joins and using cranes to lower beams and piers onto haulage trucks for removal from site.

Signage will be in place to direct motorists, pedestrians and cyclists around works areas. Please observe the directions of traffic control while passing through the area.

What to expect

During these works you may notice some intermittent disruptions.

Stage 1: 7:00pm Saturday 31 July to 7:00am Sunday 1 August 2021

  • Full closure of Fairfield Road between Kadumba Street and Yeronga Street. A diversion will be in place from Kadumba Street to Yeronga Street
  • Traffic movements at the intersections of Fairfield Road and Kadumba Street and Fairfield Road and Yeronga Street will be under the direction of Queensland Police Service and traffic control
  • No parking on the eastern side of Shottery Street (southbound lane) temporarily

Stage 2: 7:00am to 7:00pm Sunday 1 August 2021

  • Fairfield Road reduced to one lane in each direction

Duration of work: 7:00pm Saturday 31 July to 7:00pm Sunday 1 August 2021

  • Cowper Street and Devon Street closed to Fairfield Road, access via Shottery Street
  • StationLink bus route 109 will run via the diversion outlined on the maps above. Alternative bus stops during the closure will be on Yeronga Street and Fairfield Road (see map)
  • Light vehicles, trucks and machinery including excavators with hydraulic hammers, trucks, mobile cranes, small power tools, drills, saws, vibrating equipment and mobile lighting towers to light the work areas at night
  • Noise, vibration and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment (e.g. excavators, trucks).
