Exhibition station construction update - February and March 2025
In February and March 2025, work will continue on fitting out and commissioning of Exhibition station buildings and construction of precinct structures such as stairs, garden beds, seating and signage.
From Tuesday 4 to Sunday 16 February 2025, rock breaking and excavation is required on both day and night shifts in the rail corridor between O’Connell Terrace and Mayne Yard.
Details of work
The following activities are scheduled to occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday during February and March 2025, weather and construction conditions permitting:
- Fit out of station canopy and buildings, and concrete pours for the new station plaza
- Construction of precinct structures such as stairs, garden beds (including landscaping), seating, and signage
- Installation of station inground services and structural steel (e.g., handrails, balustrades)
- Installation of cable routes and pits in the rail corridor between Campbell Street and Bowen Bridge Road
- Continue construction of a new shared path between Bowen Bridge Road and the station entry
- Car park and roadway construction between Bowen Bridge Road and Exhibition station
- Track work and maintenance
Out of Hours Work
Additional activities will occur outside the project’s normal working hours, as outlined below.
In Spring Hill and Bowen Hills, and intermittently between 6:30pm and 6:30am throughout February and March 2025 (Night Shift) and intermittently between 6:30am and 6:30pm throughout December 2024 and January 2025 (Sundays), the following works will occur:
- Concrete deliveries and pours
- Installation of cable routes and pits within the rail corridor including pulling new cables in conduits
- Trenching and rock excavation to support signaling, civil, and inground services
- Station fit out and finishing works
- Track work and maintenance
Within the rail corridor between O’Connell Terrace and Mayne Yard, and between 2:00am Tuesday 4 February to 2:00am Friday 21 February 2025, the following works will occur:
- Concrete for the new station plaza and fit out of station canopy, buildings, and plaza entry
- Construction of precinct structures such as stairs, garden beds, seating, and signage
- Electrical testing and commissioning works
- Installation of station inground services

What to Expect
During these works you may notice some intermittent disruptions such as:
- Use of large machinery such as excavators with hydraulic hammers to remove rock, cranes, and concrete pumps for concrete structures between Campbell Street and Bowen Bridge Road and loading material into trucks for transport
- Intermittent pedestrian and cycle detour adjacent to Bowen Bridge Road and the Brisbane Showground entry
- Changes around your local area such as construction vehicles, traffic management signs, and personnel
- Increased levels of noise, vibration, and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment
- Access into the rail corridor will be via the Victoria Park access road, Bowen Bridge Road, Lanham Street, and O’Connell Terrace via the Brisbane Showgrounds
