Extended: Mary Street acoustic shed removal works – changes to traffic and pedestrian arrangements - May 2025

Due to unforeseen circumstances, lane closures on Mary Street are extended to mid June 2025 to allow a mobile crane to safely remove the front sections of the Lot 2 acoustic shed.

Work Details

Removal of the Lot 2 acoustic shed began in late March 2025.

Temporary lane closures are required on Mary Street to safely remove sections of the shed near the street using a mobile crane.

Ongoing work to remove the acoustic shed involves:

  • Unbolting sections of the roof using oxy cutters and rattle guns. Removal of roof sections using cranes and trucks
  • Separating pre-cast concrete wall sections using concrete saws, shears and oxy cutters
  • Where possible, wall and roof sections will be removed in single pieces via trucks
  • Large wall sections will be relocated within the shed for demolition by excavators with jackhammer attachments.

For more information about ongoing work to remove the acoustic shed, please refer to the works notification.

Traffic and pedestrian changes

Until mid June 2025, traffic and pedestrian changes will involve:

  • Lane closures on Mary Street next to Lot 2, with one lane maintained in each direction, under traffic control
  • The existing eastbound lane closure on Mary Street adjacent to the Lot 1 site will stay in place
  • Access between Mary and Albert streets will be maintained under direction of traffic control
  • The footpath in front of the Lot 2 acoustic shed will remain closed. Pedestrian access will be available on the opposite side of Mary Street
  • Removal of loading bay on Mary Street (refer map below)
  • Access to properties on Mary Street will be maintained.

When this activity is completed, Mary Street will return to the long-term traffic arrangement. For more information about the long-term arrangements, please see the Mary Street long-term traffic changes works notification.

Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of this work on businesses, residents and commuters.
