Mary Street temporary full road closure - service investigation works - April 2025
From 8pm Friday 4 April to 5am Monday 7 April 2025, a temporary full road closure will be required at the intersection of Albert and Mary streets to locate and confirm underground services.
After completion of this activity, installation of new underground stormwater infrastructure will be scheduled in the following weeks. Additional notification will be provided prior to installation commencing.
Work Details
Work will involve:
- Implementing traffic control arrangements.
- Use of machinery including vacuum excavation trucks, road saws, generators, compressors, excavators, haulage vehicles, lighting units, and hand tools.
- Reinstating the road surface after service investigation activities are complete.

Work Hours
These activities and associated traffic changes will be carried out continuously between 8pm Friday 4 and 5am Monday 7 April 2025.
Work is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions. In the event of wet weather, this work will be rescheduled to the next available weekend.

Traffic and Pedestrian Impacts
- Mary Street closed at the intersection with Albert Street. There will be no access for eastbound or westbound vehicles past the closure.
- No access for vehicles from Albert Street onto Mary Street.
- The northern footpath of Mary Street adjacent to the Lot 1 work site will remain closed.
- Pedestrians on the southern footpath of Mary Street will be temporarily stopped when required and escorted through the work area under direction of traffic control.
- No change to bus stops as they do not operate during these times.
- Access to properties will be maintained throughout the work, and traffic control will be in place to assist.
What to Expect
- Temporary vehicle and pedestrian detours.
- Increased truck movements and traffic control on Mary Street and Albert Street intersection.
- Increase in noise, dust, vibration, and worksite lighting.
- Increase in personnel carrying out works.
Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of this work on businesses, residents, and commuters. At completion of the work, Mary Street will return to single lane access for westbound traffic only.
