Mary Street - temporary full road closure - June 2025

From 6:00pm Saturday 28 June to 6:00am Sunday 29 June 2025, a temporary full road closure will be in place on Mary Street near the intersection of Albert Street to install a new crane at the Main Station Entrance site (Lot 1).

Work details

Work will involve:

  • Implementing traffic control arrangements
  • Setting up a mobile crane at the intersection of Mary and Albert Street
  • Lifting sections of the crane pieces into site to assemble the new crane
  • Use of other machinery including but not limited to cranes, hand tools and rattle guns.

Work hours

Work will be undertaken between 8:00pm Saturday 28 June to 8:00am Sunday 29 June 2025. Work is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions. In the event of wet weather, work will be undertaken on the next available date.

Traffic and pedestrian impacts

  • Mary Street closed at the Albert Street intersection. There will be no access for eastbound or westbound traffic past the closure
  • No access for vehicles from Albert Street onto Mary Street
  • Vehicle detours in place on Alice, George, Elizabeth and Edward streets
  • Pedestrians detoured around the work area
  • Temporary closure of loading bay located on Albert Street outside Capri hotel
  • Pedestrians may be temporarily stopped when required and escorted through the work area under direction of traffic control
  • The northern footpath of Mary Street adjacent to the Main Station Entrance (Lot 1) work site will remain closed
  • Access to properties will be maintained throughout the work, and traffic control will be in place to assist.

At completion of works, Mary Street will return to single lane access for westbound traffic only. For more information on the long

What to expect

  • Temporary vehicle and pedestrian detours
  • Increased truck movements and traffic control near the site
  • Increase in noise, dust, vibration and worksite lighting
  • Increase in personnel carrying out works.
