Elizabeth Street – overnight lane closures
From 6:30pm Monday 22 June 2026 until 6:30am Saturday 27 June 2026, lane closures will be in place on Elizabeth Street at the Albert Street intersection to facilitate road resurfacing works as part of the Albert Street Green Spine.
Work details
- Road resurfacing works on Elizabeth Street and the laneway behind Lot 3 site.
- The use of machinery including road milling machines, trucks, earthmoving and roller equipment, asphalt paving and line marking machines.
- There will also be an increase in light vehicles, lighting towers, hand held tools and generators.
Traffic and pedestrian impacts
- The shared zone and left hand turn from Elizabeth Street into Albert Street will be closed for one night during asphalting works. Local access will be maintained through traffic control at other times.
- The pedestrian crossings on Elizabeth Street will be closed from 6:30pm to 6:30am with detours in place (shown on map below).
- Loading zones and parking within the temporary works area on Elizabeth Street will be closed during the works.
- The cycle lane will be closed both day and night for two days during works. Cyclists will be detoured onto pedestrian footpaths. Cyclists are asked to follow the direction of traffic controllers and signage and dismount bicycles through this section.
- There will be no impact to Elizabeth Street Bus stops 82 (ID 000082) and 83 (ID 000083) with bus stops maintained to accommodate last services each night.
- Uptown car park access and exit will be maintained under traffic control.

What to expect
- Night time closure of two lanes, with one lane maintained for vehicles travelling eastbound on Elizabeth Street. Reduced speed limits will be in place.
- Night time closure of the laneway behind the Lot 3 site. During works to mill out the existing road base, access will be maintained under traffic control.
- Closure of the cycle lane both day and night and pedestrian detours in place.
- You may experience an increase in noise and lighting, as well as odour from the road base materials.
- During works to mill out the existing road base, access will be maintained under traffic control.
- During asphalting works, stop and holds may occur.
- Please follow directional signage and traffic control when travelling through the area.
Work hours
Work will be undertaken at night from 6:30pm to 6:30am. Work is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions.
