Albert Street pedestrian gantry night-time closures and daytime stoppages
From mid-October to late 2025, intermittent pedestrian stoppages and night-time closures of the pedestrian gantry between Charlotte and Mary Streets will be required to facilitate installation of the main station entrance (Lot 1) canopy and Green Spine works.
Work details
Canopy installation
- Implementing traffic control arrangements to establish a safe work area and pedestrian detour
- Delivery of steel trusses
- Joining steel truss pieces together with rattle guns
- Lifting and bolting steel trusses into the station walls with a crawler crane, elevated work platforms and rattle guns.
Green Spine works
- Implementing traffic control arrangements to establish a safe work area and pedestrian detour
- Construction of the Green Spine pedestrian footpath within the gantry and footpath area
- Relocation and reinstatement of fencing and overhead gantries to delineate the pedestrian footpath and construction site
Work hours
The work has been staged to ensure safe access is provided for businesses and properties.
Work will take place during the day 6:30am-6:30pm and at night 6:30pm-6:30am. Work is subject to relevant approvals and conditions.
Traffic and pedestrian impacts
Day shift (6.30am-6.30pm)
- Intermittent pedestrian stoppages in the Albert Street pedestrian gantry
- Each stoppage will be for up to five minutes
- Existing footpath closures on Mary Street outside Lot 1 and Lot 2 will remain in place.
Night shift (7:00pm-6.00am)
- Scheduled night-time closures of the Albert Street pedestrian gantry between Charlotte and Mary streets
- During each closure, pedestrians will be detoured via Charlotte, Mary, Edward and George streets
- Existing footpath closures on Mary Street outside Lot 1 and Lot 2 will remain in place
- Access to properties will be maintained throughout the work, and traffic control will be in place to assist.

Scheduled night-time closures
- From mid to late October, and for up to one week, Green Spine works will be conducted at night
- From early November, and for up to one week, Green Spine works will be conducted at night
- From mid-November, and for up to six weeks, canopy installation works will be conducted at night

What to expect
- Changes to pedestrian and traffic conditions
- Nightly closures of Albert Street gantry and temporary pedestrian detours, where required
- Increase in potential noise, dust and vibration
- Increase in personnel carrying out works.
Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of this work on businesses, residents and commuters.
At the completion of works, the Albert Street pedestrian footpath will be reopened to the public. Fencing will be reinstated to delineate the pedestrian footpath and construction work areas.
