Albert Street night-time traffic changes -
Mary and Margaret Street intersections

Work details

• Implementing traffic control arrangements.
• Sewer manhole rehabilitation which includes cleaning and removing surface debris and coating the walls with a new protective coating
• Vacuum trucks will remove wastewater from the sewer network and transport the wastewater to an alternative location to be discharged back into the sewer network.
• Use of hand held tools, vacuum trucks, lighting and increased workforce in the area.
• Work is required to be carried out at night when use of the sewer infrastructure is lower.

Traffic and pedestrian impacts

• Temporary night-time closure of Mary Street at the Albert Street intersection. There will be no access on Mary Street for eastbound or westbound traffic through the closure.
• Temporary night-time closure of Albert Street at the Margaret Street intersection. There will be no right hand turn from Margaret Street into Albert Street. Vehicles travelling north on Albert Street towards Margaret Street will need to follow the detour.
• Temporary night-time lane closures on Margaret Street, with one lane maintained at all times.
• Vehicle detours will be in place on Alice, George, Elizabeth and Edward streets (please see map below).
• Night-time closures of the pedestrian gantry on Albert Street between Charlotte and Mary streets. Pedestrian detours in place.

Public transport changes

During the night-time closures, Mary Street Stop 50 near Albert Street (Stop ID: 000050) will be temporarily closed. Buses will stop at Alice Street Stop 99 at Albert Street (Stop ID: 00099).

What to expect

• Temporary night-time intersection and lane closures on Albert Street at both Mary and Margaret street intersections
• Increase in noise from vacuum trucks and possible odour from wastewater.
• There are no anticipated impacts to the wastewater network, however if any impacted stakeholders are identified they will be notified prior to activities taking place.
• Please follow directional signage and traffic control when travelling through the area.
• Access to properties will be maintained throughout the work, and traffic control will be in place to assist.

Work hours

Work will be carried out from 6:30pm to 6:30am seven days a week. Work is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions
