Albert Street Green Spine – temporary traffic and pedestrian changes on Mary Street

From early July for approximately three months, the shoulder lane on Mary Street, outside Lot 2, will be temporarily closed to carry out roadworks and streetscaping as part of Green Spine construction. Two-way traffic will be maintained, with some adjustments to line marking.

Work details

  • Installing barriers and traffic control arrangements.
  • Changes to line marking on Mary Street.
  • Green Spine works in this area will include:
    • Demolishing asphalt, concrete, kerbs, footpaths and general excavation.
    • Locating underground services, including saw cutting, core drilling, potholing and hydro excavation.
    • Installing new drainage, kerbs, concrete slab and paving.
    • Installing street furniture and plants.
    • Installing lighting and traffic signals.

Traffic and pedestrian impacts

  • To establish a temporary work area, the shoulder lane on the northern side of Mary Street will be closed for up to three months. Two-way traffic will be maintained, with some traffic adjustments made with line marking.
  • The pedestrian footpath in front of Lot 1 will remain closed to late 2026.
  • The closure of the eastbound lane on Mary Street in front of Lot 1 will remain in place until late 2026. Vehicles travelling eastbound cannot pass through the work area.
  • Existing intermittent lane and road closures on both Charlotte and Mary streets will continue as required.
  • Loading bays located outside 99 Mary Street will be temporarily closed. Replacement loading bays will be available outside 131 Mary Street.

What to expect

  • Traffic barriers placed on Mary Street to delineate the temporary work area.
  • Work occurring during both day and night shifts.
  • Changes to pedestrian access during the day and night.
  • Traffic control and signage in place to assist.
  • Access to properties and businesses will be maintained.
  • Increased noise, dust, vibration and lighting associated with construction.
  • Potential impacts to existing services (e.g. power, water, gas). Affected properties will be notified of any planned impacts, as required.

Work hours

Work will be carried out during day and night, seven days a week. Work is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions.
