The Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is committed to acknowledging and honouring the cultural heritage of our project alignment.

Cross River Rail in collaboration with Bilbie Labs, is helping bring to life Virtual Songlines, a virtual world where we can pay respect to the stories, traditions and customs of Brisbane’s Traditional Owners.

This digital world allows us to visit our station locations as they were in 1819, exploring the geology, environment, stories and traditions.

Albert Mid Afternoon - Gathering

Albert Street is close to the waterhole and creek that flowed through King George Square to the river. This place is Meanchinn (Brisbane CBD) a spike of land where Maiwar (the Brisbane River) meanders.

We gathered reeds, hunted frogs, ducks and fish, and mangrove grew close to the river. A treasure trove of medicinal plants and bushtucker were here, including quandongs, bush honey and lily pilly berries. Our people cared for this land, and in return, Mother Earth provided for us allowing us to gather enough of the bush foods and medicines we needed.
