Albert Street night-time gantry closures

From Monday 26 May 2025 for up to two weeks, the Albert Street pedestrian gantry between Charlotte and Mary Streets will be closed nightly between 6:30pm and 6:30am. These closures are required to install permanent electrical services for the new station.

Work details

Work will involve:

  • Implementing traffic control arrangements to establish a safe work area and pedestrian detour
  • Excavation of the footpath within gantry
  • Construction and connection of new electrical services
  • Backfill and reinstatement of footpath within the Albert Street gantry
  • Use of machinery including vacuum excavation trucks, road saws, generators, compressors, excavators, haulage vehicles,
    lighting units and hand tools.

No service outages are expected for local residents during this work.

Traffic and pedestrian impacts

  • Nightly closures of the Albert Street pedestrian gantry between Charlotte and Mary streets
  • During this work, pedestrians will be detoured via Charlotte, Mary, Edward and George streets
  • Existing footpath closures on Mary Street outside Lot 1 and Lot 2 will remain in place
  • Access to properties will be maintained throughout the work, and traffic control will be in place to assist

Work hours

Work will be undertaken between 6:30pm and 6:30am and is expected to take up to two weeks to complete.

This work is being carried out at night to minimise impact to local businesses and pedestrians.

Work is subject to relevant approvals and conditions.

In the event of wet weather or unforeseen circumstances, this work may be rescheduled. Advance notification will be provided for any changes.

What to expect:

  • Temporary pedestrian detours
  • Increase in potential noise, dust, vibration and worksite lighting
  • Increase in personnel carrying out works.

Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of this work on businesses, residents and commuters.

At the completion of works, the Albert Street pedestrian gantry will fully reopen to the public.
