Moorooka station construction update – April 2026

On Monday 2 March 2026, Moorooka station closed to commuters to allow major construction to commence. The station will be closed until construction completion in late-2027, weather and construction conditions permitting.

During April, significant works will be undertaken including the demolition of station buildings and station platforms 1 and 2.

Details of Work

The following activities are scheduled to occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday in April 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting:

  • Continue construction of the new platform 3, including steel fixing, concreting, and structural steel installation
  • Continue installation of drainage, service conduits and pits for electrical, communications and cable routes within the rail corridor
  • Continue demolition of the station entry, station footbridge, station buildings and island platform
  • Commence earthworks for foundations, drainage and installation of services
  • Continue construction of the new rail maintenance access road (RMAR) and gate adjacent to 1215 Ipswich Road (see map), including installation of drainage, formwork and concreting
  • Closure of the Moorooka station commuter carpark located between Keats and Chaucer Street from Monday 30 March to provide additional workforce parking.

Out of Hours Work

Work activities scheduled at Moorooka station rail corridor and Ipswich Road, Moorooka, during planned track closures (when trains are not operating) or outside the project’s standard working hours are outlined below, weather and construction conditions permitting:

  • Between 6:30pm and 6:30am intermittently during April 2026
    • Public utility investigations for services (e.g., water, electrical)
    • Delivery of large plant and equipment via the Ipswich Road site entry adjacent to Moorooka station using a single lane closure (see map).
  • Between 2:00am Friday 3 and 10:00pm Sunday 26 April 2026 – 24/7 continuous work:
    • Station demolition works using concrete saws, excavators with rock breakers and jackhammers, loaders and trucks
    • Delivery of large plant and equipment to site, and removal of material
    • Cable service relocation works including trenching and installation
    • Earthworks and installation of drainage and services (e.g. water and electrical)
    • Installation of foundations and masts for overhead electrical lines and removal of old structures
    • RMAR construction adjacent to 1215 Ipswich Road (see map)

Start of major construction

Between 2:00am Friday 3 and 10:00pm Sunday 26 April 2026 – 24/7 continuous work.

To demolish platforms 1 and 2 including station buildings, a significant amount of work is required on both day and night shifts between Friday 3 and Sunday 26 April. For the safety of workers and members of the community, these works can only be completed within a track closure when trains are not running.

During station demolition works, increased levels of noise can be expected during both day and night shifts. Please refer to the attached construction timeline for more information.

What to Expect

During these works you may notice some intermittent disruptions such as:

  • Closure of the Moorooka station commuter car park located between Keats and Chaucer Street
  • Intermittent single lane closures and traffic holds on Ipswich Road near the Moorooka station entry during night shift for delivery of large plant and equipment (see map)
  • No pedestrian access to the footpath on the western side of Ipswich Road between Hamilton Road and the station entry. A pedestrian diversion is in place on the eastern side of Ipswich Road between Hamilton Road and Unwin Street during construction (see map)
  • Light vehicles, trucks and machinery including excavators with rock breakers and jackhammers, concrete trucks, concrete pump trucks, rollers, water carts, front end loaders, mobile cranes, piling rigs, drilling rigs, vacuum excavation trucks, small power tools, drills, saws, minor vibrating equipment and mobile lighting towers to light the work areas at night
  • Changes around your local area such as construction vehicles, traffic management signs and personnel
  • Some noise, vibration and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment

Changes to the way you travel

From Friday 3 to Sunday 26 April, there will be track closures and travel changes for works on multiple new projects to build a better rail network for South East Queensland. There will also be temporary changes to services on the Beenleigh line from Monday 27 April to December 2026.

Clapham Yard construction update - April and May 2026

In April and May 2026, UNITY Alliance will continue earthworks, drainage installation, conduit installation, bridge construction, structural steel and wall installation for the Clapham Yard Maintenance Facility, as well as signalling and overhead electrical line works.

Details of Work

The following activities are scheduled to occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday in April and May 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting:

  • Continue construction of retaining walls, Moolabin Creek rail bridge and viaduct, and Clapham Yard Maintenance Facility
  • Continue installation of drainage, service conduits and pits for electrical, communications and cable routes
  • Continue installation of foundations and masts for overhead electrical equipment and wires
  • Continue rail corridor and boundary fence installation requiring intermittent single lane closures on Fairfield Road outbound (refer to map)
  • Continue track installation works within Clapham Yard, undertaken by Queensland Rail.

Out of Hours Work

At Clapham Yard/ Fairfield Road, Yeerongpilly, work activities scheduled during planned track closures (when trains are not operating) or outside the project’s standard working hours are outlined below, weather and construction conditions permitting:

  • Between 6:30pm and 6:30am intermittently in April and May 2026:
    • Public utility investigations for water and sewer services
    • Delivery of equipment and materials to site including concrete, gravels and building supplies.
  • Between 2:00am Friday 3 and 10:00pm Sunday 26 April 2026, and between 12:00am Saturday 30 May and 3:00am Monday 1 June 2026:
    • Cable service route works including excavation, concreting, drainage and installation of under track crossings for services (e.g., water, electrical)
    • Track construction
    • Concrete pours for slab construction
    • Excavation, earthworks and drainage
    • Moolabin Creek rail bridge construction piling
    • Retaining wall construction
    • Removal of old structures and installation of new foundations and masts for overhead electrical line
    • Signalling testing and commissioning.
