Yeronga station extended closure
Project Updates
04 Mar 2021
Yeronga station is the first of six stations between Fairfield and Salisbury to be rebuilt as part of the transformational Cross River Rail project.
To allow the works to be undertaken safely and efficiently, the station will close for approximately six months from late April, with the exact date to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
The remaining stations will be closed on a rolling schedule, with timings to be finalised closer to start dates.
Cross River Rail Delivery Authority CEO Graeme Newton said rebuilding the Fairfield to Salisbury stations was an important part of the Cross River Rail project.
“Closing each station on a rolling schedule for approximately six months, starting with Yeronga, is necessary to have all six rebuilt in time for the start of Cross River Rail services in 2025,” Mr Newton said.
“These stations are some of the oldest in the entire SEQ rail network and these extended closures will minimise overall disruption while allowing required works to take place as efficiently and safely as possible.”
The works at Yeronga will include raising platform 1 and 2, relocating in-ground services, constructing retaining walls, installing shade structures and new station amenities such as seating.
TransLink’s Matt Longland said to help minimise the impact of station works, a new StationLink 109 bus service (now the StaionLink 19) would operate during the Cross River Rail Fairfield to Salisbury works.
“We’ll have information readily available to commuters on the Translink website and app, and an information stand will be set up at Yeronga station ahead of the closure to provide the latest information, including the StationLink bus service,” Mr Longland said.
