Southern Portal Site establishment and demolition
As part of Cross River Rail, a tunnel portal will be constructed in the area south of the new Boggo Road station.
From early October 2020, the project will commence establishing work areas and a construction laydown yard south of Park Road station. These activities will take approximately six weeks to complete.
Following site establishment, work in the southern area will include the removal of existing Queensland Rail infrastructure, realignment of existing surface rail, relocation of services and construction of the tunnel portal and twin tunnels.
Site establishment activities
The Queensland Rail property formerly known as the Dutton Park Depot Complex has been acquired to enable work in the southern construction area. Buildings at the property are required to be demolished to enable construction of the southern portal.
An area adjacent to O’Keefe Street will also be utilised for site offices and as a construction laydown area.
Access to this area will be via Ipswich Road.
Site establishment work will involve:
- Mobilising construction equipment to the work areas
- Installing fencing. Access on all adjacent footpaths will be maintained
- Constructing new site access driveways
- Vegetation trimming and removal within the work areas
- Disconnecting utility services and removing fittings and fixtures from existing buildings
- Demolishing existing buildings using large excavators
- Installing site offices and facilities.
The following proposed works are currently being considered by the Coordinator-General as part of a Request for Project Change 8:
- Heavy vehicles using Kent Street for the purpose of haulage and the delivery of materials into the work site.
- Modifications to the Annerley Road / Cornwall Street / Kent Street intersection.
These works will commence if approved by the Coordinator-General.

To be considered in the Coordinator-General’s evaluation, submissions must be made online or in writing to the Coordinator-General by 5pm Friday 2 October 2020.
Work hours
Site establishment and demolition work will be carried out between 6:30am and 6:30pm Monday to Saturday.
Due to traffic restrictions and to maintain the safety of the community and workers, some work may be undertaken at night between 6:30pm and 6:30am.
Further notification will be distributed in advance of night work.
Work is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions.
What to expect
As a result of this work, you can expect:
- An increase in construction workers and vehicles in the area
- Use of construction machinery and equipment including large excavators, loaders, trucks, concrete saws, concrete trucks, compaction equipment, hand tools, light vehicles and traffic control
- An increase in noise, dust and vibration for a nearby businesses and residents. These impacts will be reduced as much as possible.
Every effort will be made to keep disruption to a minimum for residents and businesses in close proximity to the works.
