Shorncliffe Line: Trackside signalling work

Details of work

Work will commence in late August and continue throughout September along the Shorncliffe Line to deliver a new railway signalling system.

Construction activities are scheduled to occur between Nudgee and Shorncliffe stations between 7.00am and 5.00pm, weather permitting.

Activities will include:

• Cleaning existing cable route and installing new cabling
• Laying foundations and installing signalling equipment and equipment housing.

To ensure the safety of workers and the community, some activities will be completed out-of-hours between 8.00pm and 4.00am. Where possible, work will be rotated between locations to minimise continuous activities at the same location.

What to expect if you live alongside the rail corridor

Residents along the rail corridor may see and hear:

• Movement of personnel and construction vehicles (including light and heavy vehicles, plant, machines and equipment)
• The use of lighting towers
• Noise, dust and vibration due to construction activities including trenching, use of vacuum trucks, earthworks, compacting and concreting.

To minimise impacts:

• Noise minimisation practices will be adopted in relation to the use of vehicles and machinery after hours (e.g. using lower powered machines which are quieter), while personnel noise will be kept to a minimum.
• Lighting towers will be directed away from residential properties, where practical.
• Soil disturbance will be minimised by watering down, modifying work methods on high wind days, and using dust suppression techniques if required.
• All workers will be briefed on key community and environmental considerations in relation to noise, dust, lighting, access, and parking.

What to expect if you’re a commuter

To undertake this work safely, some track closures will be necessary. These will be scheduled at non-peak times and over selected weekends to minimise any inconvenience. Bus services will replace trains in instances where services are impacted.
