Roma Street footbridge demolition complete

On Friday 27 March, work began on the demolition of the Roma Street footbridge and by the following Monday morning, the bridge was removed and Roma Street re-opened to traffic.

The old footbridge provided a connection from the Brisbane Transit Centre to George Street but needed to be removed as part of the demolition of the Brisbane Transit Centre and to make way for the new Cross River Rail station entrance being constructed at Roma Street.

A pedestrian crossing has also been installed and can now be used instead.

Before work began to remove the footbridge, the surrounding area was closed to traffic and pedestrians. Work progressed for 47 continuous hours over a single weekend, to ensure minimum possible disruption to travel and transport services.
