Yeerongpilly station construction update - September and October 2026

UNITY Alliance will undertake major track reconstruction works at Yeerongpilly Junction during a planned track closure from Saturday 19 September to Sunday 11 October 2026. Works include the removal and reconfiguration of more than 750 metres of track and will be carried out 24/7 throughout the closure period to safely and efficiently deliver these critical works.

Details of works

The following activities are scheduled to occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday throughout September and October, weather and construction conditions permitting:

  • Delivery of plant, equipment and materials to site prior to and during the planned track closure
  • Track construction activities including removal and reinstatement of track, sleepers, resurfacing and tamping activities
  • Removal of redundant overhead structures and wiring, and installation of new overhead structures and wiring
  • Major earthworks and materials haulage to remove and replace material within the rail corridor via the southern end of Wilkie Street and Softstone Street during day shift only. Intermittent temporary traffic holds on Wilkie Street (refer to map) will be used for trucks, large plant and equipment to access to and from the rail corridor.

Out of hours work

Work activities scheduled during planned track closures (when trains are not operating) or outside the project’s standard working hours are outlined below, weather and construction conditions permitting.

At Yeerongpilly station and in the rail corridor, and between 2:00am Saturday 19 September to 10:00pm Sunday 11 October 2026, the following works will occur:

  • Track construction activities including removal and reinstatement of track and sleepers, and resurfacing and tamping activities
  • Transportation of clean material between the material staging area and work area via the rail corridor beneath the Fairfield Road bridge at Yeerongpilly Junction
  • Earthworks and excavation to replace material within the rail corridor
  • Removal and replacement of overhead wire infrastructure between Yeerongpilly station and Moorooka station.

Truck movements and haulage routes

Clean fill will be delivered to the material staging area via Figtree Street from Monday 7 September to Friday 2 October.

No truck movements will occur on Figtree Street during the Davis Cup Tennis event from Saturday 19 to Sunday 20 September.

Material will be removed from the rail corridor via Wilkie Street and Green Street from Sunday 20 September to Sunday 11 October, and from the material staging area via Softstone Street and Tennyson Memorial Avenue from Monday 21 September to Sunday 11 October.

Changes to the way you travel

From Saturday 19 September to Sunday 11 October, there will be track closures and travel changes on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines for works on multiple projects to build a better rail network for South East Queensland.

What to expect

During these works you may notice some disruptions such as:

  • Intermittent traffic holds on Wilkie Street between Crichton Street and Station Road to allow construction traffic in and out of the rail corridor. Traffic control will be on site to assist motorists and pedestrians, please allow for extra travel time if passing through the area
  • Delivery and removal of materials from site via trucks. Please refer to truck movements and haulage route information on the back page
  • Trucks and machinery including graders, frontend loaders, excavators with rock breakers, vacuum trucks, trucks, mobile cranes, rail cutting saws, small power tools, minor vibrating equipment and mobile lighting towers to light work areas at night
  • Increased noise, vibration and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment.
