2019 was a big year for Cross River Rail. Major contractors were appointed, multiple new worksites were established, the location of three new Gold Coast stations was announced and a Precincts Delivery Strategy was launched that will be the catalyst for up to $20 billion of investment for the region.
At Woolloongabba work is ongoing with the installation of 280 concrete piles for the station box. A new work site has been established at Boggo Road which comes on top of the ongoing demolition works at Roma Street and Albert Street in the heart of the City.
Work is underway on the Shorncliffe line, where we will be piloting the new European Train Control System that will make Cross River Rail and Brisbane’s rail network safer and more efficient.
And extensive work has also begun in our rail corridors, particularly the section between Roma Street and Exhibition stations where the project’s northern tunnel portal will be constructed.
But 2020 is when works will really kick up a gear.
Demolition will be completed at Roma and Albert Streets, tunnelling will commence from Woolloongabba to Boggo Road, and work will commence on the new stations on the Gold Coast.
This year will see work starting at the RNA Showgrounds’ Exhibition station, as well as station upgrade works at Fairfield and Yeronga, and at the project’s southern tunnel portal south of Boggo Road.
Construction of Cross River Rail will create 7,700 jobs in total and this year opportunities will increase significantly for trainees, apprentices, and for local companies looking to pick up sub-contracted work.
