Environmental and Sustainability Policies

The Delivery Authority has prepared Environmental and Sustainability Policies for the Project to ensure the delivery of this significant infrastructure project is undertaken in a sustainable manner while managing our environmental footprint.

These Policies outline our commitment to minimise the impact of our business activities on the environment and to adopt practices that use resources sustainably, while still delivering a resilient public transport system. These commitments are aligned with the State Government Policy and Cross River Rail project objectives to achieve sustainable outcomes and are linked to the environmental and sustainability objectives.

Cross River Rail is targeting a rating of ‘Excellent’ utilising the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC) Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) rating tool (Version 1.2) for Design and As Built stages. This rating is to be achieved at the program level for the Tunnel, Stations and Development (TSD) and Rail, Integration and Systems (RIS) packages and is also to be achieved at the package level for TSD and RIS.

Cross River Rail is also committed to achieving sustainability outcomes on the three New Gold Coast Stations it is delivering at Pimpama, Hope Island and Merrimac. This includes a mixture of various sustainability initiatives, including adoption of Queensland government policies, guidelines and ratings utilising the ISC Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) rating tool (Version 1.2), as appropriate to that station in accordance with these policies.

Hope Island and Merrimac stations are seeking ratings under the IS rating tool (Version 1.2), while Pimpama station is delivering a range of sustainability initiatives aligned with Queensland Government policies and guidelines, including the Pathway to a Clean Growth Economy: Queensland Climate Transition Strategy.

As a knowledge sharing initiative for sustainability to aid in the adoption of environmentally labelled products on infrastructure projects, Cross River Rail have created an Environmentally labelled Products Information Sheet in collaboration with their delivery partner UNITY Alliance. This Information Sheet contains general information to assist projects registered for an Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) rating to achieve the benchmarks within the Mat-2 (Ver 1.2 As Built) Environmentally Labelled Products and Supply Chains credit or the Rso-7 (Ver 2.1 Design & As Built) Sustainability Labelled Products and Supply Chains credit.
