Albert Street station construction update - December 2024 and January 2025
At the main station entrance site (Lot 1), jump form construction is progressing to build the structure above ground-level.
In the Albert Street station cavern site (Lot 2), underground station fit out work is underway with ducting, ceiling, cabling and aluminium panel installation underway.
Escalator installation was recently completed at the northern station entrance site (Lot 3). There are six escalators in total, with the longest measuring 37m and weighing in at 30 tonnes.
Lot 1 – Main station entrance site (corner of Mary and Albert streets).
The below works will occur within the standard construction hours of 6:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday.
The below underground and support activities will occur 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
These works will include:
- Cutting and fixing steel reinforcement bars and mesh
- Formwork shutter installation and jump form construction above ground
- Concrete pours and concrete cutting using high pressure water (green cutting)
- Heavy plant movement (during the day and at night) including cranage, transport and delivery of materials, equipment and machinery
- Jump form and hoist modifications
- Anchors drilling and installation as part of building station walls
- Underground station building fit-out including block work, and mechanical and electrical service installation.
Delivery of v-columns using the mobile crane at the main station entrance site (Lot 1).
Lot 2 – Activities within the acoustic shed and in the underground cavern
The below works will occur within the standard construction hours of 6:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday.
The below underground and support activities will occur 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.
- Installing formwork, steel fixing reinforcement bars and mesh, and concrete pouring activities
- Delivery and installation of structural steel.
- Mechanical and electrical fit-out beneath platform culverts and on the cavern ceiling
- Back of house and front of house fit out including installing block work, cable trays, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, ceiling panels, concrete and aluminium cladding
- Delivery and transport of materials, equipment, and machinery
- Dismantling and removal of acoustic shed with cranes and large trucks. Traffic changes on Mary Street will be required.

Lot 3 – Northern station entrance site (142 Albert Street)
The below works will occur within the standard construction hours of 6:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday.
Some activities will be completed out of normal construction hours due to traffic permits, safety requirements and construction methodology.
Works will include:
- Delivery and installation of steel beams, and assembly works to create the station roof structure
- Installing formwork, cutting and fixing steel reinforcement bars, scaffolding and concrete pours
- Site facility adjustments including site fencing changes
- Ongoing intermittent temporary footpath detours and stop-and-go arrangements required for overhead lifts and to deliver and demobilise plant, equipment and modules
- Mechanical and electrical service installation and fit-out including escalators, passenger lifts, ceiling framing and cabling.

Green Spine – Albert Street between Elizabeth and Charlotte streets
The below works will occur during the standard construction hours of 6:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday.
Some activities will be completed out of normal construction hours due to traffic permits, safety requirements and construction methodology.
From early 2025, the Albert Street Green Spine construction area will expand to the footpath area outside 123 Albert Street. Pedestrian access through the area and access to businesses will be maintained. You can view a map of the work area and pedestrian routes at the dedicated page. Please follow all signage and traffic control guidance. Works will include but are not limited to:

- Site establishment
- Investigation works
- Installation of new services
- Demolition of asphalt concrete layer and excavating to formation level
- Demolition of existing kerbs
- Concrete slab and pavement work
- Lighting foundation installation
- Sub-base installation.
Local streets- Albert Street between Alice and Queen streets: Elizabeth, Charlotte and Mary streets
The below works will occur within the standard construction hours of 6:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday.
Some activities will be completed out of normal construction hours due to traffic permits, safety requirements and construction methodology.
These works will include:
- Installing, maintaining and removing monitoring equipment and services
- Utility, borehole and geotechnical investigations and maintenance
- Permanent service and utility connections
- Manhole relining and sewer maintenance (CCTV)
- Line marking, gantry and facilities adjustments
- Vegetation maintenance.
What to expect
During construction of the new station buildings and underground platform, there will be an increase in workforce and vehicles at the three Albert Street sites for the transport of materials, equipment and machinery.
Nearby residents and businesses may also experience an increase in dust, noise and vibration.
For your safety, intermittent temporary pedestrian and traffic holds and diversions will be in place near the worksites during concrete pours and other deliveries to the sites. Please follow all directions of traffic.
