The removal of the Goprint building at Woolloongabba is an essential element of the Early Works program for Cross River Rail.

Lawton-based company Caylamax Demolitions were awarded the contract to demolish the 4500 metres square building and work began in October.

As the demolition progresses the excavator is sorting waste from the recyclable materials, such as concrete and steel, which are then relocated to a recycling facility. At least 5 trucks a day are being used to remove the 9,000 tonnes of concrete, 350 tonnes of scrap steel and 80 tonnes of waste material.

For the safety of pedestrians, local traffic and the workers on site, an exclusion zone around the site has been established and a traffic management plan is in operation.

The demolition work is being managed from 6.30am-6.30pm Monday to Saturday excluding large event days at the Gabba when work will be paused to minimise interruption to spectators attending the event, including this summer’s Big Bash matches.

The Goprint building is located on the site of the future Woolloongabba train station, which will be one of five new high-capacity Cross River Rail stations expected to be used by over 164,000 passengers daily. The new station will provide easy access for thousands of people attending events at the Gabba as well as the thriving local entertainment precinct.

The demolition is scheduled to be completed by January 2018.
