Temporary electrical facilities and concrete slab removal

From 16 September to late October 2026, the temporary electrical facilities on Lot 2 (the former acoustic shed site) will be removed, including up to two weeks of intermittent concrete removal. These facilities provided interim power to the main station site during construction and are no longer required.

Work details

  • Removal of the temporary electrical facility infrastructure including the substation.
  • Removal of site facilities including the remaining section of the Albert Street pedestrian gantry between Charlotte and Mary streets.
  • Removal of concrete slabs and foundations, using excavators with hammer attachments, handheld jackhammers and saw cutters.
  • Broken concrete will be loaded onto trucks and removed from site for disposal.
  • Truck movements throughout the day and night to remove materials from the worksite.
  • Removal of substation and site facilities will include the use of large mobile plant and equipment including mobile cranes.

Traffic and pedestrian changes

  • Existing footpath closures on Mary Street outside Lot 1 and Lot 2 will remain in place.
  • The existing shoulder lane closure on Mary Street will remain in place until late September.
  • The existing closure of the eastbound lane on Mary Street adjacent to the Lot 1 construction site will remain in place.
  • Intermittent footpath closures on Albert Street between Charlotte and Mary streets will be required, detours via Edward and George streets will be in place.
  • Intermittent lane closures on Mary Street may be required.
  • Access to properties on Mary Street will be maintained.

Reducing impacts during works

During these works, every effort will be made to minimise the impacts on businesses, residents and commuters. Measures include:

  • Majority of concrete demolition work to occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm.
  • Use of water trucks and other on-site dust suppression devices including hoses and/or misting.
  • Dedicated road sweepers to perform routine and additional cleaning when required on-site.

What to expect

  • Increased noise, vibration and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment including, but not limited to, excavators, jackhammers, concrete saws, grinders and hand tools.
  • The use of rattle guns, hand tools, cranes and trucks.
  • An increase in construction workers and vehicle movements in and out of the area.

Work hours

Work will be undertaken intermittently during the day and at night, up to seven days a week.

Concrete demolition activities using excavators, jackhammers and concrete saws will be prioritised to occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm, however some activities may occur throughout the night until 6:30am.
