Roma Street concrete slab removal
From early-September to early 2027, the removal of concrete and some site facilities will take place intermittently within the Roma Street construction site near the corner of Roma Street and Parkland Boulevard and at the previous Roma Street busway platform 1.
Work details
- Removal of concrete slabs and foundations, using excavators with hammer attachments, handheld jackhammers, saw cutters.
- Removal of the previous temporary busway platform 1, including concrete slabs and canopy structures.
- Removal of some site facilities including break rooms, storage sheds, temporary walkways, pedestrian lifts and electrical connections.
- Broken concrete will be loaded onto trucks and removed from site for disposal.
- Truck movements throughout the day and night to remove materials from the worksite.
Traffic and pedestrian changes
- Some temporary vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist traffic changes may be in place throughout 2026. Additional notification will be provided ahead of impactful changes.
- Please follow all signage throughout the precinct where detours are required.
- Access to Roma Street station, Brisbane Coach Terminal and Parkland Boulevard will be maintained at all times under traffic control.
Reducing impact during removal works
During concrete removal, every effort will be made to minimise the impacts on businesses, residents and commuters. Measures include:
- Majority of concrete demolition work to occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm.
- Use of water trucks and other on-site dust suppression devices including hoses and/or misting.
- Dedicated road sweepers to perform routine and additional cleaning when required on-site.

What to expect
- Increased noise, vibration and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment including, but not limited to, excavators, jackhammers, concrete saws, grinders and hand tools.
- The use of rattle guns, hand tools, cranes and trucks.
- An increase in construction workers and vehicle movements in and out of the area.
Work hours
Work will be undertaken intermittently during the day and at night, up to seven days a week.
Concrete demolition activities using excavators, jackhammers and concrete saws will be prioritised to occur between 6:30am and 6:30pm, however some activities may occur throughout the night until 6:30am.
This activity is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions.
