Folkestone Street – Night-time lane closures

From 24 August 2026, for up to two weeks, there will be night-time lane closures on Folkestone Street. This is to facilitate sewer utility upgrade works for Albert Street station as part of the Cross River Rail Project.

Work details

Sewer utility upgrades are being carried out in the Brisbane CBD as part of construction for the new Albert Street station.

To facilitate a safe working area and maintain services during the works, wastewater from the CBD will be transported by vacuum truck to the designated discharge point.

Folkestone Street has been identified as the preferred location to discharge the wastewater back into the network by Urban Utilities.

Work will involve:

  • Implementing traffic control arrangements
  • Discharge of wastewater into the sewer network using vacuum trucks.
  • Use of trucks, lighting and increased workforce in the area.
  • Work is required to be carried out at night when use of the sewer infrastructure is lower.

Traffic and pedestrian impacts

  • Temporary night-time lane closures on Folkestone Street. Two-way vehicle access will be maintained under traffic control, some stop and holds may be required (see map below).
  • Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained.
  • Access to properties will be maintained throughout the work, and traffic control will be in place to assist.
