Albert Street - Concrete slab removal
From Monday 30 March through to mid-June 2026, the concrete slab and foundations of the former Acoustic Shed at the corner of Albert and Mary streets (Lot 2) will be removed.
Work details
- Removal of the concrete slab and foundations, using excavators with hammer attachments and handheld jackhammers.
- Broken concrete will be loaded onto trucks and removed from site for disposal.
- Truck movements throughout the day and night to remove materials from the worksite.
Traffic and pedestrian changes
- The pedestrian footpath in front of the Lot 2 will remain closed. Pedestrian access is maintained throughout the precinct.
- The westbound lane of Mary Street will remain open. There are no changes to bus services on Mary Street.
- The existing closure of the eastbound lane on Mary Street adjacent to the Lot 1 construction site will remain in place. Vehicles travelling eastbound cannot pass through the work area.
- Intermittent lane, road and footpath closures on Mary Street.
- Access to properties on Mary Street will be maintained.
- Intermittent footpath closure between Albert and Charlotte Street.
Reducing impact during removal works
During concrete slab removal, every effort will be made to minimise the impacts on businesses, residents and commuters. Measures include:
- Majority of concrete demolition work to occur between 7:00am and 10:00pm.
- Use of water trucks and other on-site dust suppression devices including hoses and/or misting.
- Dedicated road sweepers to perform routine and additional cleaning when required on-site.

Work hours
Work will be undertaken during the day and at night, seven days a week.
Concrete demolition activities using excavators, jackhammers and concrete saws will be prioritised to occur between 7:00am and 10:00pm, however some activities may occur throughout the night until 6:30am.
This activity is subject to relevant approvals and suitable weather conditions.
What to expect
- Increased noise, vibration and dust associated with the use of heavy machinery and equipment including, but not limited to, excavators, jackhammers, concrete saws, grinders and hand tools.
- An increase in construction workers and vehicle movements in and out of the area.
In the following months, concrete removal will also take place underneath the main station entrance (Lot 1). Further information will be provided closer to this activity occurring.
