Moorooka station accessibility rebuild update

Moorooka station is being rebuilt as part of a wider transformation to expand, improve and modernise South East Queensland’s rail network, and work will soon begin on demolition of the existing station.

As part of this transformation, the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority is responsible for a rolling program of station accessibility upgrades between Dutton Park and Salisbury stations, including a complete rebuild of Moorooka station.

Moorooka station is being completely rebuilt to make it accessible and create a better transport experience for all customers. The station will close from 2 March to allow major works to commence at the station.

Beenleigh line trains will run express through Moorooka station during construction, with the station expected to reopen in late-2027 once works are complete.

Station features

Features of the Moorooka station upgrade will include:

  • A new accessible station entry including shade canopy, seating, drinking foundation and landscaping
  • Accessible parking and kiss ‘n’ ride facilities on Ipswich Road
  • A new station overpass with a lift and staircase to each platform
  • New platform canopies to provide improved weather protection
  • New station buildings including ticket office, staff facilities and accessible public toilets
  • Secure enclosure for 40 bicycles and outdoor racks
  • An additional third platform.

Moorooka station construction

Works will occur from 2 March 2026 – late 2027*.

This work will involve the following changes:

  • Station closed to all train services
  • Relocation of the Ipswich Road signalised pedestrian crossing from (near) Keats Street to (near) Chaucer Street and closure of the Ipswich Road (western side) bus stop opposite Keats Street
  • The pedestrian path outside the station will remain closed for construction, with alternative pedestrian access available along the eastern side of Ipswich Road, with the signalised crossing near Keats Street available to cross near Chaucer Street

Works will include:

  • Demolition of existing platforms and construction of new raised platforms, including an additional third platform
  • Demolition of the existing station building and construction of new buildings including a ticket office, staff facilities and accessible public toilets
  • Construction of the new station entry on Ipswich Road including shade canopy, seating, drinking fountain, bus stop, and accessible parking and kiss ‘n’ ride facilities
  • Construction of platform canopies and installation of new station furniture, including seating and rubbish bins
  • Installation of drainage within the rail corridor and track works
  • Identification and relocation of in-ground services
  • Construction of an enclosed bicycle storage shelter and outdoor casual bicycle racks
  • Construction of connecting footpaths adjacent to the station entry and landscaping on Ipswich Road.

Alternative transport

There are plenty of alternative travel options to support you during the closure:

Travelling by bus:

  • StationLink Route 19 is a high frequency bus service which will service Moorooka and operate between Rocklea station and the PA Hospital busway station.
    • stop 39 on Ipswich Road at Moorooka station (stop ID: 004794) to travel towards to the PA Hospital busway station
    • stop 38/39 on Ipswich Road at Moorooka station (stop ID: 010396) to travel towards Rocklea station
    • stop 38 on Ipswich Road near Gainsborough Street (stop ID: 004789) to travel towards Rocklea station.
  • StationLink route 19 services operate Monday to Friday, running every 15 minutes during peak times from the first service to until nearly 8pm, and every 30 minutes from 8pm to the last service. On weekends, StationLink runs every 30 minutes from the first to last service.
  • Buses have StationLink signage to make them easily identifiable and are low floor (accessible) with ticketing equipment available
  • You’ll be able to track StationLink in real-time on the Translink app and plan your new journey with Translink’s journey planner.

Travelling by train:

  • If you prefer to continue travelling by train, Yeerongpilly and Rocklea stations are open. Both stations are fully accessible
  • There may be other local services that are better for you, so remember to plan ahead before you travel on Monday 2 March.
